When hungry Gritch arrives at the farm, she can't find a single pig. Instead, she finds a wolf, whom she slyly invites home: "I always enjoy having a wolf for lunch." The wry, peppery dialogue is simply great ("Look, Shorty, I've been quack-quacked here, moo-mooed there, and clucked-clucked everywhere all over this farm" ), and Palatini's allusions to popular children's stories from The Wizard of Oz to the "Three Little Pigs" will delight kids. I used to read this to my boys when they were little. It was one of their favorites. I was quite animated when reading it and they loved it. They are now in their 20s and I am facing some health issues. I decided to purchase some of their favorite childhood books and my husband is going to video tape me reading them... for my boys, and maybe their children. When it came in the mail, I asked, "Do you remember this?" They laughed immediately, "YES!" Grown young men excited about "Piggie Pie!" Priceless!

I read this book to my grandsons who are now in their twenties. They loved it, and I never forgot it. It is so much fun to read aloud, and now, it elicits comments from my six year old grandson throughout the story. I served him Chicken Pot Pie last week, and when I asked him if he had found piggies in my Pie, he giggled and laughed on and off through supper. My twenty-six year old grandson and the six year old enjoyed discussing the book too. The illustrations of the pigs in disguise are priceless. So is the ending. I had the taped version with the book, but have found the paperback to be more fun. We talk more, and we laugh more.

I can remember being so excited when I saw my mom had got this book from the library. Now I was so excited to buy it for my nieces. This book is a delight- both the story and the illustrations. Highly, highly, highly recommend!

I buy this book for every baby shower I go to that asks for books instead of cards. Loved this book being read to me & my brothers by my mom when I was little, loved learning to read it, & still love the funny story today! Great for reading with funny voices for different characters :)

great story - very clever. my kids loved this story growing up, and I just bought it for my grandkids. As soon as my kids saw it, we all had to read it again :)

One of my favorite books to read-aloud. It’s so much fun voicing the mean witch. Even my hard to engage students are captivated by this story. It’s always a hit in the classroom. Very funny too.

My 6 year old daughter loves this! She had me read it three nights in a row and wanted more! I wish there were other Gritch adventures!

This is a favorite read aloud at our house! The spans a huge age range. My kids, ages 2 and 4, would read it back to back if I let them, and when I was a third grade teacher this was frequently requested from my students at Halloween time. The characters are fun, the story is hilarious for all ages, and the pictures are truly engaging. A must buy for your home collection!
