About the Author
Jen Wilkin is a writer, teacher, and blogger at JenWilkin.net. She is the managing editor of The Village Church blog and leads the Flower Mound Women’s Bible Study, an interdenominational Bible study with about 700 members representing 68 different churches. She earned a B.A. in English and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M. Jen wrote Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds and DVD-based Bible studies on The Sermon on the Mount and 1 Peter. Jen grew up in Texas and came to saving faith in elementary school. Her childhood was marked by time spent in seven different denominations—a range of experience that left her with the conviction that knowing the Word was the only sure means of discerning truth from error. Jen’s passion is to see women become articulate and committed followers of Christ, with a clear understanding of why they believe what they believe, grounded in the Word of God. In Week 4 video lecture, I was not happy that Jen made a comparison of separation of people by different categories to current affairs about immigration in our country. This was a blatant political comment and did not need to be made and not a fair analogy. It now makes me wonder if I should continue to view her with the same eyes as before? Previously, I was happy with her study but now that she has injected politics into what should have been about the Bible, I am conflicted.
This is a study that you need time for. It challenges your mind, body, and soul. I found it really hard to ask myself the deeper questions...it was truly a test of all other tests. This was a great study with my women's group. I loved it.
This struck me as a little basic. Maybe good for new Christians or people new to studying the Bible.
I purchased the God of Creation workbook this summer since I was not able to attend my church’s Bible Study. I have completed Jen’s two earlier studies and loved her teaching style. The content covered and her insights in all three Bible studies have all been wonderful and I have learned so much. I will add, as others reviews have, that it is beneficial to watch the weekly videos that accompany the study. I was fortunate enough to participate in the opportunity Lifeway provided this summer, which was to watch the videos at no cost and participate in the weekly online discussion. I would highly recommend this study (and her others) for small group study. I cannot wait for what she writes next!
I am using this in an online Bible study. It is well laid out and there is plenty of room to answer questions. It needs to be used in conjunction with the video series of the same name to get full benefit from the study.
Learned so much! Jen Wilkin moves you toward rewarding insights that likely we’d never gain in a typical reading of the Bible or study. Though Wilkin’s studies aren’t as glitzy as other studies, I’ve really learned to appreciate her approach. I’m a stronger Bible student from her guidance.
Used this book this past semester with ladies group from our church. We will continue in Feb. but leader is ordering bulk supply so all can have at beginning of study. Good material.
